The "Publication Manual" is the style manual of choice for writers, editors, students, and educators. Although it is specifically designed to help writers in the behavioral sciences and social sciences, anyone who writes non-fiction prose can benefit from its guidance. The newly-revised Sixth Edition has not only been rewritten. It has also been thoroughly rethought and reorganized, making it the most user-friendly "Publication Manual" the APA has ever produced. You will be able to find answers to your questions faster than ever before. When you need advice on how to present information, including text, data, and graphics, for publication in any type of format--such as college and university papers, professional journals, presentations for colleagues, and online publication--you will find the advice you're looking for in the "Publication Manual."

It provides invaluable guidance on all aspects of the writing process, from the ethics of authorship to the word choice that best reduces bias in language.

NOT the correct mannual I purchased this from MagicBook1234...perhaps that should have been my first clue. However, I purchased from them because they had the best price and the reviews for the seller seemed to be good...then I started working on my paper and found GLARING issues with the spiral copy of the manual I received. There is no way this is the approved manual. Perhaps a first run or someone horribly plagiarized the book. Glaring issues are throughout. Ex: on page 67 of the spiral book: First sentence says "mtending" instead of intending. Same pg 1st sentence under section 3.08 states "only what needs to be said". This section starts with a lower case and it is not a complete sentence! Page 68 says "10-year-olc*" instead of 10-year-old. There are level 2 headings not bolded when most are. I could go on. Be cautious when purchasing.Lots of stuff about publication...may be more than you're looking for in an APA guide for college papers. It's pretty comprehensive...has a lot of stuff about publication...and publishing...as well as the usual APA punctuation and grammar rules for the style. If your an undergrad student...this manual may be more than you're looking for when it comes to writing college papers.A lot of what this book has, and more, can be found on "Purdue dot edu" for free. And, it's comprehensive as well.If you're looking for a quick reference...I recommend APA: The Easy Way by Houghton and Houghton. I have grown to appreciate it's simplistic approach to the APA basics .Hope this helped...Beware of knock-offs! I am giving the low star amount because I believe I was sent a knock-off of the real thing. Although it was new and packaged, as soon as I pulled off the wrapping I noticed it had a horrid smell. I've never smelled anything like it, so it's hard to describe. But it's terrible! Then I began reading it. The pages were faded in some spots, and there are very bad spelling errors throughout what I have read so far. I had to go to my college bookstore and buy a copy from them, and I compared the real one with whatever the heck was sent to me. I am attaching pics to show how bad it is. There are a lot more errors, I am just posting a couple. I am returning it immediately. It sounds like most people are getting the real deal, but do be aware that there are bad copies going around as well.I just wanted to add that I am not talking about the errors that accompanied the first printing, this was supposedly a 7th printing with the "errors" fixed. This was a book that had clearly been badly re-typed by someone, as can be seen in the pics I included. This is a counterfeit product IMO.

Mark Rippetoe is the author of Starting Strength: Basic Barbell Training, Practical Programming for Strength Training 2nd edition, Strong Enough?, Mean Ol' Mr. Gravity, and numerous journal, magazine and internet articles. He has worked in the fitness industry since 1978, and has been the owner of the Wichita Falls Athletic Club since 1984. He graduated from Midwestern State University in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science in geology and a minor in anthropology. He was in the first group certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a CSCS in 1985, and the first to formally relinquish that credential in 2009. Rip was a competitive powerlifter for ten years, and has coached many lifters and athletes, and many thousands of people interested in improving their strength and performance. He conducts seminars on this method of barbell training around the country.

Starting Strength has been called the best and most useful of fitness books. The second edition, Starting Strength: Basic Barbell Training, sold over 80,000 copies in a competitive global market for fitness education. Along with Practical Programming for Strength Training 2nd Edition, they form a simple, logical, and practical approach to strength training. Now, after six more years of testing and adjustment with thousands of athletes in seminars all over the country, the updated third edition expands and improves on the previous teaching methods and biomechanical analysis. No other book on barbell training ever written provides the detailed instruction on every aspect of the basic barbell exercises found in SS:BBT3. And while the methods for implementing barbell training detailed in the book are primarily aimed at young athletes, they have been successfully applied to everyone: young and old, male and female, fit and flabby, sick and healthy, weak and already strong. Many people all over the world have used the simple biological principle of stress/recovery/adaptation on which this method is based to improve their performance, their appearance, and their long-term health. With over 150,000 copies in print in three editions, Starting Strength is the most important method available to learn the most effective way to train with barbells -- the most important way to improve your strength, your health, and your life.

-- Why barbells are the most effective tools for strength training.
-- The mechanical basis of barbell training, concisely and logically explained.
-- All new photographs and improved illustrations of all the lifts, and the biomechanics behind them.
-- Complete, easy-to-follow instructions for performing the basic barbell exercises: the squat, press, deadlift, bench press, power clean, and the power snatch.
-- Revised instruction methods for all six lifts, proven effective in four years of seminar, military, and group instruction.
-- How the human body adapts to stress through recovery, and why this is the foundation of the development of strength and lifetime health.
-- How to program the basic exercises into the most effective program for long-term progress.
-- Completely indexed.
-- The most productive method in existence for anyone beginning a strength training program.

The best book to get strong in a dependable and injury-free way. I will reference this for the rest of my life. This is the most valuable fitness book I have ever read. Not only does Mark tell you how to start with strength training he will always explain the why right along with it. He will never say to do something without explaining why. Not only does he give you a "why", its a "why" that is backed up by a lot of experience with training people to get stronger. Even more, it is backed up with logical conclusions based off of anatomy. This straight-forward approach is what I was looking for to bring my lifting to the next level. A lot of the how and why described in this book helped me tweak my lifts to be stronger AND safer. I cannot thank Mark enough for putting out such an excellent book. I will be referencing this book for the rest of my life. I am looking forward to buying the next book for strength programming.I have included a photo of the book that includes dimensions. This is the PAPER BACK version.Pros:*Excellent explanation of HOW to do lifts*Explanation of WHY he teaches the lifts the way he does*Great starter strength programming that is useful for any lifter.*Prevents injuryCons:*NoneAdditional Considerations:Look into getting the second book if you would like more strength programs to make yourself stronger. Another thing, Mark has a ton of great youtube videos out that goes over the various lifts and other things. Those along with the book make it very easy to self correct and get better at lifting. I cannot recommend them enough.Overall: 5/5 stars (>=.5 rounds up, <.5 rounds down) => 5 starsIf you have any further questions regarding the product in my review please leave a comment below and I will get back to you as soon as possible.Excellent resource that has had an enormous impact on my quality of life. Excellent resource that has had an enormous impact on my quality of life. Combine this with the free Starting Strength podcast and instructional YouTube vids and you have your self a worthwhile education and practical application class. I put a rack and barbell in my garage and have been applying what I have been learning over the past 6 months.Bench was 195lbs for 5 reps and is now 245lbsOHP was 115lbs for 5 and is now 155lbsDL was 315lbs for 5 and is now 455lbsBS was 285 for 5 and is now 365lbsand all still climbing..Update: My Squat is now 415lbs DL 505lbsAs an added benefit, I am not constantly hurting myself with bad form and having to take time to heal and thus lose gains. Also, I don't hurt when I get up in the morning. All this with previous C-Spine, knee and nerve damage injuries from three combat tours to Iraq.Exercise Bible The only bad thing about this book is that it makes you want to go up to people and correct their awful form. Once you learn it, you can't unlearn it.Mark Rippetoe provides an irrefutable argument that the best exercises we should use in the gym are barbells.1. The exercises we choose from should use many muscle groups2. The exercise takes us through the full range of motion3. The exercise allows us to lift the heaviest weights possible (with good form of course)As a personal trainer It's a shame that this information is neglected in most standard textbooks of the subject. If you're going to buy one book to become a stronger version of yourself and not waste time then make it this one. You won't regret it.

Where'd You Go, Bernadette Pdf

ISBN: 0316204269
Title: Where'd You Go, Bernadette Pdf A Novel

"This divinely funny, many-faceted novel...leaves convention behind. Instead, it plays to Ms. Semple's strengths as someone who can practice ventriloquism in many voices, skip over the mundane and utterly refute the notion that mixed-media fiction is bloggy, slack or lazy.... The tightly constructed WHERE'D YOU GO, BERNADETTE is written in many formats-e-mails, letters, F.B.I. documents, correspondence with a psychiatrist and even an emergency-room bill for a run-in between Bernadette and Audrey. Yet these pieces are strung together so wittily that Ms. Semple's storytelling is always front and center, in sharp focus. You could stop and pay attention to how apt each new format is, how rarely she repeats herself and how imaginatively she unveils every bit of information. But you would have to stop laughing first."―Janet Maslin, The New York TimesYou don't have to know Seattle to get Maria Semple's broadly satirical novel.... Underlying the nontraditional narrative are insights into the cost of thwarted creativity and the power of mother-daughter bonds, although a reader may be having too much fun to notice."―O, The Oprah Magazine"Delightfully droll.... Semple...cuts a wry slice of a life-one that's populated by private school helicopter parents, obsessively eco-conscious neighbors, and green-juice swilling, TED-talking husbands-and one that's sharp enough to make us feel slightly relieved about not having to live anywhere quite so bucolic."―Megan O'Grady, Vogue"The characters in Where'd You Go, Bernadette may be in real emotional pain, but Semple has the wit and perspective and imagination to make their story hilarious. I tore through this book with heedless pleasure."―Jonathan Franzen, author of Freedom"There's a lot to like in Semple's charming novel, including the vivacious humor and the lesson that when creative forces like Bernadette stop creating, they become 'a menace to society.' Even more appealing is the mutually adoring mother-daughter relationship at its warm heart."―Heller McAlpin, NPR"In her second novel...Semple pieces together a modern-day comic caper full of heart and ingenuity....a compelling composite of a woman's life-and the way she's viewed by the many people who share it. As expected from a writer who has written episodes of Arrested Development, the nuances of mundane interactions are brilliantly captured, and the overarching mystery deepens with each page, until the thoroughly satisfying dénouement."―Publisher's Weekly (Starred Review)"A comedic delight..."―Family Circle"Agoraphobia and Antarctica are among the elements in Maria Semple's terrific novel."―Parade"Semple's affecting characters, not-necessarily-nice humor and surprising plot twists make this novel an enchanting ride."―Carolyn Kellogg, Los Angeles Times"Warm, dark, sad, funny-and a little bit screwball.... This is an inventive and very funny novel that gets bonus points for transcending form."―Susan Coll, The Washington Post Maria Semple's first novel, This One is Mine, was set in Los Angeles, where she also wrote for television shows including Arrested Development, Mad About You, and Ellen. She escaped from Los Angeles and lives with her family in Seattle, where her second novel takes place.

*Soon to be a major motion picture starring Cate Blanchett*

A whip-smart, hysterical dramedy about a family in crisis after the disappearance of its brilliant, misanthropic matriarch.

Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.

Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette's intensifying allergy to Seattle--and people in general--has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands. A trip to the end of the earth is problematic.

To find her mother, Bee compiles email messages, official documents, secret correspondence--creating a compulsively readable and touching novel about misplaced genius and a mother and daughter's role in an absurd world.

Unusual and interesting novel I really enjoyed this book - even though it wasn't remotely what I was expecting. Told through a series of narrators, with emails, letters, and texts, this is a tightly-woven contemporary epistolary novel. The primary narrator is Bee, telling the story from her perspective as a young teen daughter. Bernadette, her mother, is a former MacArthur genius award winning architect, who is missing. The book is by turns hilarious and touching. It skewers helicopter parents, high tech, and Seattle. It also focuses on mother-daughter relationships, family dynamics, and creativity. The main characters, including Elgin the father and husband, are unforgettable. This is a book that makes you feel good!Be prepared for a unique reading experience! Fifteen year old Bee lives in Seattle with her parents in a 12,000 square ft building that once was a Catholic school for wayward girls. To say their lifestyle is unconventional would be an understatement. Their "home" has blackberry vines growing through the floorboards, a roof that leaks like a sieve, and an odor that would assault anyone's nose who might enter; yet the three of them don't seem to notice. It's not because of lack of intelligence or money. They all have Einstein level IQs. Elgin has a very high level job at Microsoft, Bernadette is an award winning architect, and Bee has been accepted to a prestigious boarding school. They are planning on taking a trip to Antarctica over Christmas break, a reward for Bee's perfect report card. But things start going awry. And then Bernadette disappears...This is a strange story told in an unique way. It's told by Bee with the help of emails, letters from school personnel, police reports, medical reports, invoices, etc. This book is satirical; certainly not a book anchored in "everyday life" realism. In this regard, it reminds me a bit of Rachael Joyce's "The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Frye"."Where'd You Go, Bernadette" isn't for everyone. Of course you can say that about every book ever published, but that goes double here. I would've given up on it if not for a reading buddy who pushed me to stick it out. The characters are not likable in the beginning (or understandable), especially Bernadette. But once I got through the first quarter, I was invested in the story. And when I reached the last page, I realized wisps of Bee, Bernadette, and Elgin have been written in my memory bank with a permanent marker. They'll fade, but never completely leave. Can't possibly give this less than 4 stars.Hollywood Ending For a time I lived around Cupertino, and I recognized many of the characters. I had the impression that the book would have continued in the vein (would be. 5 star review). However the quarrelsome/crazy women finds an iceberg and is rendered sane and functioning. The 15 year old daughter matures in under an hour and all is right with the world. The husband is sort of left out of the game plan.A quick read and flows well.

The Girl Who Drank the Moon Pdf

ISBN: B01JSHI3PY
Title: The Girl Who Drank the Moon Pdf

A young girl raised by a witch, a swamp monster, and a Perfectly Tiny Dragon must unlock the dangerous magic buried deep inside her in this epic coming-of-age fairy tale from the highly acclaimed author of The Witch's Boy.

Every year the people of the Protectorate leave a baby as an offering to the witch who lives in the forest. They hope this sacrifice will keep her from terrorizing their town. But the witch in the forest, Xan, is kind and gentle. She shares her home with a wise Swamp Monster named Glerk and a Perfectly Tiny Dragon, Fyrian. Xan rescues the abandoned children and delivers them to welcoming families on the other side of the forest, nourishing the babies with starlight on the journey.

One year Xan accidentally feeds a baby moonlight instead of starlight, filling the ordinary child with extraordinary magic. Xan decides she must raise this girl, whom she calls Luna, as her own. When Luna approaches her 13th birthday, her magic begins to emerge on schedule - but Xan is far away. Meanwhile, a young man from the Protectorate is determined to free his people by killing the witch. Soon it is up to Luna to protect those who have protected her - even if it means the end of the loving, safe world she's always known.

The acclaimed author of The Witch's Boy has created another epic coming-of-age fairy tale destined to become a modern classic.

A must read for girls 11-13 years old. I don't recommend this for 8-10. What a wonderful book. But you've already read the professional reviews and you don't need me to tell you that. What I can tell you is that my daughter is 8, and I can't see her either benefiting from or wanting to read this book/have it read to her for at least another two years. The main action of this story happens when a girl is twelve/thirteen, when most girls physically change into adults. This book is for those girls, and absolutely should be read by every one of them. The book is interwoven with rising tension throughout the story. A sensitive young girl is likely to be too worried about what will happen to actually want to read it. In the end there is no physical violence, but emotional tension runs very high. By the time the confrontations happen you (the adult reader) are begging for them to happen. Begging for all the problems laid out to be resolved, but the young reader? Heck, my daughter freaked out the first time Moana went into the ocean (and only then). Like "The Witch's Boy" (by same author) there are disturbing scenes--here especially early in the book. On an emotional level, fairly devastating. There are also things that she might just not be ready to understand until that age. For example the two main heroines are wrapped up in a pattern of lying to each other--for all the best reasons. As an adult I understand and learned from this. But for an 8 year old? Heck, it is probably too subtle for a normal 10 year old.You should notice I have pitched this almost absolutely for young girls. Not to say that boys won't like it--exciting story it be--but it is absolutely for that target audience. Get it for your son as well; he'll understand a lot more about women when he's done with it.Adult readers? You should all read it. Now.It is a pitch perfect classic.Stunning and Extraordinary! Middle-Grade at its best! Believing there to be a witch in the woods, the scared people of the Protectorate, each year, offer up the youngest baby in the town, hoping to appease the witch. These people are correct to believe a witch in the woods exist, but she isn’t the evil, baby eating monster they fear. Instead, each year she rescues these babies and gives them to deserving families in far away cities...until one year she accidentally enmagicks a baby girl by feeding her moonlight. With no other choice, the witch, Xan, raises the magic baby, Luna, with the help of an impossibly small dragon named Fyrian and a swamp monster with a heart of gold named Glerk. But the magic inside Luna is more powerful than anything and as her 13th birthday approaches, Xan knows everything will change.Y’all, I LOVE ADORE AM CRAZY for this middle-grade book! The Girl Who Drank the Moon is utterly astonishing and gorgeous in every way. Kelly Barnhill is a word wizard and weaves a spellbinding, lush, lyrical story that will enchant and enrapture readers of all ages.Barnhill’s words are pure, sparkly magic and her storytelling is simply lovely. With rich, stunning prose that flows effortlessly and beautifully, and a pitch-perfect fantasy voice, I greedily drank in every delicious drop of The Girl Who Drank the Moon. Barnhill does a superb job of mixing together all things fantastical, quirky, whimsical, and adventurous, to create a tale that feels wonderfully classic and timeless, yet excitingly new and innovative. Young readers will be enthralled by the thrilling magical elements, intrigued by the complex setting, and charmed by the irresistible characters. The Girl Who Drank the Moon is inhabited by some of the most unforgettable middle-grade characters that I’ve met in a long time. Barnhill carefully crafts each of her characters with depth, thoughtfulness, and moonlight I’m sure! From heartfelt Xan to fierce, capable, vulnerable Luna, sweet Fyrian, lovable Glerk, wise Antain, and a few awesomely wicked antagonists, these characters captivate and delight! My final thoughts: I couldn’t put The Girl Who Drank the Moon down and loved every awe-inspiring, tear inducing, gasp-worthy, and goosebump making moment of it! This is one of those extraordinary and beautiful stories that magic their way deep into your heart.A story about love, and caring, and sacrifice, and magic. Ten stars.Twenty stars.A hundred stars.I LOVED this story. I loved everything about it. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone, from children to adults. I don't usually reread books, but I know I will return to this story again and again. This story had everything you could want in a GREAT fairytale. The characters in this story were multifaceted and endearing. The storyline was well thought out with a satisfying conclusion. I wouldn't change anything in this story. As an avid reader, I have only encountered this in a tiny handful of books. Such a rare treat to read! There were plenty of plot twists and turns. A thread of dark mystery was carefully woven into the story. And yet, there is love, so much love in this book as well. Not the sappy artificial love seen in romance novels, but the love of family and friends. This book would make a fabulous gift, especially to Harry Potter fans. This book has a similar feel to it. In fact, I think I liked it even better, and that's saying a LOT. So many emotions in this book! Warm and fuzzy with a hint of sadness but uplifting too! Grownups will NOT feel like they are reading a children's story, and yet I would feel comfortable reading this book to a young child. Again, a rare story to be sure. I will seek out more books by this author.

Title: Rock Needs River Pdf A Memoir About a Very Open Adoption

From a story first told in the popular New York Times parenting blog comes a funny, touching memoir about a mother who welcomes more than a new daughter into her home.

After two years of waiting to adopt—slogging through paperwork and bouncing between hope and despair—a miracle finally happened for Vanessa McGrady. Her sweet baby, Grace, was a dream come true. Then Vanessa made a highly uncommon gesture: when Grace’s biological parents became homeless, Vanessa invited them to stay.

Without a blueprint for navigating the practical basics of an open adoption or any discussion of expectations or boundaries, the unusual living arrangement became a bottomless well of conflicting emotions and increasingly difficult decisions complicated by missed opportunities, regret, social chaos, and broken hearts.

Written with wit, candor, and compassion, Rock Needs River is, ultimately, Vanessa’s love letter to her daughter, one that illuminates the universal need for connection and the heroine’s journey to find her tribe.

Not for me The first half of this 200-page book meandered through details of multiple messy relationships, often laced with infidelity. I catch myself rereading the book description to double check that the focus of the book would be adoption. The author finds someone special—Peter—a married man with teenager daughters. We learn details of Peter’s failed marriage and messy divorce. How embarrassing for Peter, his first wife, and their daughters—why should they be shamed in someone else’s memoir? Doesn’t that violate memoir etiquette?Eventually, the focus shifts to having a child and the painful journey to adoption. Enter Bill and Bridgett, a couple who are expecting and trying to find parents for their child. The author (and Peter) want this baby. The story bumps along, vague on adoption details, but soon they’re at home with their own baby girl! I wanted more about how the relationship between bio-parents and adoptive parents. Instead the focus was heavier on how Peter was a disappointment as a husband and father, and the dissolution of their marriage. Again, lots of Peter shaming. Even if everything said is true, why would anyone bash the father of their child in such a public way? So ugly and unnecessary. Finally, we get to Bill and Bridgett, the bio-parents. They went from just-getting-by to homeless. What stands out about this couple is they don’t ask for anything. They don’t ask to move in, but they accept the offer. Somehow Bill and Bridgett disappoint the author at every turn. They don't make the choices she expects them to make. They won't let her fix them and they back away when the author keeps pushing them to change. The author describes it as them being mad at her. She messaged them for years to get them to talk to her and when they finally agree to her requests for an interview about the adoption, she is devastated because they don’t say what she wants to hear. They chose her to be the mother of their child. Why is that not enough?Bill and Bridgett were self-aware enough to know they shouldn’t raise a child. I wonder if they regret open adoption. I hope they never read this book.
