PRAISE FOR JOHANNA'S CHRISTMAS“The festive designs are nothing less than what you would expect from the woman whose work helped propel adult coloring into a phenomenon.” —Milwaukee Journal Sentinel“Entrancing.” —Los Angeles TimesPRAISE FOR JOHANNA BASFORD'S COLORING BOOKS“The colorists have a queen, and her name is Johanna Basford.” —New York Magazine“Consider trading in your yoga mat for a set of markers and peruse the gorgeous gardens of Basford's imagination.” —Huffington Post“Artist Johanna Basford is at the forefront of the grown up coloring trend. Her whimsical artwork just makes us want to drop all our responsibilities and color forever.” —Hello Giggles“This is a breathtakingly beautiful coloring book, full of detail, whimsy, and possibilities. Inspiration invades at the turn of the first page and is guaranteed to capture the imagination and attention of any artist young and old.” —The Children's Book Review  Johanna Basford is an illustrator and ink evangelist who prefers pens and pencils to pixels. Her intricate, hand-drawn illustrations are loved the world over by those who have colored in (sometimes more than once) her bestselling books Johanna's Christmas, Magical Jungle, Lost Ocean, Secret Garden, and Enchanted Forest. Johanna is a graduate of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee. She likes sugar mice, floral teacups, peonies, and bumblebees. Visit her online at johannabasford.com.

From the creator of the worldwide bestsellers Secret Garden and Lost Ocean, a beautiful new adult coloring book, printed on ivory paper and featuring delicate tangles of holly and ivy, bauble-laden Christmas trees, and mountains of exquisitely wrapped gifts.

From flurries of delicate snowflakes to deliciously decorated gingerbread houses and reindeer-led sleighs, Johanna’s Christmas is a celebration of this wonderful holiday season that invites you to pick up your pens and pencils to color, complete, or embellish each of the festive artworks.

Each of the 37 images in this book is printed single-sided on perforated paper, so you can color and remove the images—the perfect frameable holiday gift!

Now printed on specially selected ivory paper. This paper has been specifically created for Johanna Basford’s coloring books. It has a medium tooth which is perfect for creating beautiful colored pencil effects or chalk pastel backgrounds but also wonderful for pens, which will glide effortlessly over its surface.

Hooray! Designs are printed on one side of the perforated page – 37 Charming and Festive Christmas Designs Finally and Hooray! Johanna Basford and her publisher have listened to her fans and printed this beautiful coloring book on one side of the page. Not only that, they have perforated the pages so you can take pages out if you wish to do so. The back of the pages are not neglected either as there is the lightest of gray holiday design patterns. The designs are beautiful and evocative of the holiday season. With everything from Christmas trees to polar bears, ornaments to prancing deer, the designs are instantly recognizable as Ms. Basford's charming style. There are 37 designs which celebrate the Christmas season. Christmas is my favorite holiday and having such a beautiful book of designs to color will help brighten up any dreary, cold days. Not to mention they will be a wonderful way to sit and relax when the holiday season starts becoming more and more hectic. The designs are open and easy to color. This is something that Ms. Basford began in her most recent book (“Magical Jungle”) and I'm pleased to see it once again. It makes it so much easier to use all forms of coloring medium and with the printing on one side, this time it really should be a choice of any coloring book medium. While several designs are set up too appear as two page spreads, only one design actually has elements which spread across two pages (a small garland and a baseboard.) Those elements cross the perforations and spread over the binding. Not a problem as it is so small and each of the pages can easily stand along as a single design. A suggestion for future books might be a fold-out page for the design or two of this nature. That would keep the whole design together and make it that much easier to color. The cover of the book has fold-outs front and back with coloring opportunities on it. I'll be interested to see if the UK version still retains the dust cover as it did with “Magical Jungle”. The attached cover has black line drawings as well as very pretty red, green, and gold foil accents on the front. The cover can be colored, however, it is much smoother in texture than the paper inside the coloring book. The title and presentation pages can be colored as well.I have ordered the UK version of this coloring book. Once it arrives, I will do a comparison of the US versus UK versions. You can look for the comparison in the comments section below. This book is definitely going on my list of family and friend gifts. I can think of several individuals I would love to give it to along with a small set of markers – which we get to use finally with this book. This is what I experienced while coloring in this book and testing the paper with my coloring medium. I will list, in the comments section below, the coloring medium I used to test this book and which I generally use for my coloring.37 – Wonderfully Festive Christmas/Winter Designs by Johanna Basford (this counts the potential two page spreads as separate designs)Printed on one side of the page (did I mention Hooray!!)Paper is heavyweight, ivory, slightly rough and perforatedGlue BindingAlcohol-based markers bleed through the pageWater-based markers and gel pens leave the slightest of shadows on the back of the page.Gel pens did not bleed through the page but did require a little more drying time.Colored pencils worked well. I tested both oil and wax-based pencils with good results. I was able to layer the same color for deeper pigment, layer multiple colors and to blend easily with a pencil style blending stick.Merry Christmas to JB fans! My only complaint about this, as was my complaint about Lost Ocean, is that there is no slip cover for the book. I am sad over this because I really enjoy having the slipcovers. The images in this book are so much easier for those of us with some difficulty with those itsy bitsy spots in images because there really aren't that many! The book really is so pretty and I'm actually in the mood to color in it despite my rather Scrooge attitude when it comes to anything Christmas before December 15th or so. The paper is like what is found in Magical Jungle so it should perform as expected for pencils.I will add photos as I complete pictures! This review was edited on Jan 23 2017 to add a single picture. The poinsettias were colored with Prismacolor Premiers, Gelly Roll pens, FC Pitt Pen, and black acrylic paint. Finally, an artist who listened to her fans. Finally, an artist (and publisher) who listens! This book is gorgeous in the tradition of all Johanna Basford's coloring books. The pages are one-sided, on heavy, perforated pages. Exactly what so many of her fans kept requesting. For those reviewers who are blasting these features..........stop it. It's a coloring book. No one made you buy this book. Enjoy the book, as the artist meant for you to do.

Title: Dirty Letters Pdf

From New York Times bestselling authors Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward comes an unexpected love story that starts long before the lovers meet.

I'd never forgotten him - a man I'd yet to meet.

Griffin Quinn was my childhood pen pal, the British boy who couldn't have been more different from me. Over the years, through hundreds of letters, we became best friends, sharing our deepest, darkest secrets and forming a connection I never thought could break.

Until one day it did.

Then, out of the blue, a new letter arrived. A scathing one - one with eight years of pent-up anger. I had no choice but to finally come clean as to why I stopped writing.

Griffin forgave me, and somehow we were able to rekindle our childhood connection. Only now we were adults, and that connection had grown to a spark. Our letters quickly went from fun to flirty to downright dirty, revealing our wildest fantasies. So it only made sense that we would take our relationship to the next level and see each other in person.

Only Griff didn't want to meet. He asked that I trust him and said it was for the best. But I wanted more - more Griff, in the flesh - so I took a big chance and went looking for him. People have done crazier things for love.

But what I found could change everything.

5 Stars For A Love That Was Everything!!! This incredible writing duo delivered an emotional journey that left my heart full. It wasn’t a picture perfect love story because love is messy. But it was filled with emotion and unconditional love. It was a love story that took decades of friendship to reach a HEA. It was worth every heartache and tear that was shed. Love is EVERYTHING!This story was honest in it’s depiction of a woman struggling with her anxiety and fears. Luca describes herself as a bird living in a cage. She was once young and carefree until a tragedy stole her fearlessness and her freedom. That tragedy would define the next eight years of her life. She couldn’t let go of the guilt that came along with being a survivor. She even gave up her British pen pal who had come to mean so much to her. Anything to punish herself for living. Now eight years later Griffin, the boy she left behind, has sent a letter to get his own closure with his friend that just disappeared on him. He never knew why she stopped writing. This is her second chance to live the life she deserves. To fix what was broken when her world fell apart. One letter. That letter would change everything.Griffin may have had his secrets, but he was truly the best! Patient and forgiving. Willing to do anything to help Luca even if that meant putting aside his own wants. Everyone deserves a Griffin. He epitomizes unconditional, forever love.I went through a roller coaster of emotions. I lived Luca’s pain and fears with her. I felt both of their sadness and heartbreak. I grieved beside them for their losses. I laughed at their bad jokes and swooned at Griffin’s romantic declarations. I truly fell in love with these characters. This was an amazing story of overcoming your past, your fears, your sadness because loving someone and being loved by them was EVERYTHING.

The Only Grant-Writing Book You'll Ever Need Pdf

ISBN: 1541617819
Title: The Only Grant-Writing Book You'll Ever Need Pdf
Author: Ellen Karsh
Published Date: 2019-11-05

Ellen Karsh was the director of the New York City's Mayor's Office of Grants Administration for more than seven years, writing grants and teaching proposal writing throughout the city. Prior to that, she developed andwrote grants for the New York City Department of Education for five years. She graduated from Purdue University and has a doctorate in special education from Columbia University. Currently, she is consulting and writing full time.Arlen Sue Fox created and managed the development department at Sunnyside Community Services, a settlement house in New York City, for ten years. She was previously director of research, planning, and evaluation for the New York City Commission on Human Rights for ten years and a consultant for many years to nonprofit organizations, from small grassroots groups to national organizations including AARP.

From top experts in the field, the definitive guide to grant-writing

Written by two expert authors who have won secured millions of dollars in government and foundation grants, The Only Grant-Writing Book You'll Ever Need is the classic book on grant seeking, providing a comprehensive, step-by-step guide for government, nonprofit, and individual grant seekers. Drawing on decades of experience in grant writing and professional development, Ellen Karsh and Arlen Sue Fox demystify the process of securing grants while offering indispensable advice from funders and recipients.

This updated fifth edition includes:
  • Vital information about grantsmanship in today's ever-changing economic and social climate
  • In-depth interviews with funders, nonprofit leaders, and policy makers about the grants process
  • A new chapter on how to diversify funding and think "outside the box" when grants are scarce
  • Concrete suggestions for developing each section of a proposal
  • Hands-on exercises that let you practice what you learn
  • A detailed description of important websites for grant seekers
  • Strategies for developing and presenting programs that are likely to receive grants

Excellent book. This is a great book. If you want to learn how to write grants get this book. I have now learned a lot and have received many grants because of what I learned from this book. I took a workshop on grant writing and I learned more from this book than I did in that class.Perfect Balance With the Usual Caveat This PACKED update of the leading classic on grant writing is a huge value for the price, especially compared to similar books costing $180 or more that deliver 10% of this quality. Unlike many that set you up with a major title ("the ONLY") then let you down, the authors have delivered sage advice for years with this book, at a price those on a nonprofit budget can afford. This update covers many of the new realities in the Alice in Wonderland world of worse economics but better grants if you know how to work the system.I've gotten numerous research grants for hundreds of millions of dollars for organizations like preptorial dot org, as well as dissertation and science nonprofits, researchers and authors. CRC offers a similar title as this one for almost 10 times the cost, which isn't nearly as practical or complete, and missing this text's fine new feature of actual q and a with grant givers. That said, I'm hoping you know that the old saying "It's not what you know, it's who you know" applies in spades to grants. The best grants are all about networking and quiet sponsorship. Some are political. No surprise? I've never found ONE that works coming in "cold" regardless of how well written, and never seen ONE that has failed with proper networking and sponsorship, regardless of how poorly written. This is like submitting a manuscript: you CANNOT get discouraged and you have to keep trying. Sadly, it also has little to do, at first, with the quality of your idea or proposal. My son (an MD/PhD) had a wonderful idea in Pediatrics that would save thousands of lives, which went nowhere, until he got a "big name" co-sponsor on the app. I don't want to sound cynical, but I also don't want you to think you just buy a text, no matter how good, and bam, money rolls in. Most importantly DO NOT get discouraged at a LOT of rejection, DO network, and DO ask those who say no if they know anyone who might be interested!DO use the generous "look inside" feature from Amazon, the authors and publishers to check this out to see if it's right for you before buying. I truly believe that folks who offer look inside are ethical, proud of their work, and want buyers to be happy with their choice, wish more would do it!With this book, with networking, and with persistence and patience, you WILL get it done!Definitely one of the only grant-writing books you'll ever need The Only Grant-Writing Book You’ll Ever Need was a required text for the grant writing course at City Vision University. Truthfully, for informative purposes and an almost insider’s look at grant writing, this text is the only book anyone would ever need. Not only is the text updated to reflect trends in the area, but it is also written to give the reader a realistic look at the world of grant writing. The text begins with the basics: what is a grant and grant writing, who can apply for grants in different sectors (nonprofits vs. individuals), types of grantmakers (foundations and government grants), and the reality of expectations one should have in writing a grant proposal versus winning a grant. With this type of beginning, the reader is automatically prepared to understand “what they don’t tell you” about grant writing. While others may have been annoyed by the level of repetitiveness of some phrases such as following the grantmaker’s guidelines, I thought there was a purpose in the repetition. They were screaming for the reader to pay attention to this detail. Due to the level of “intangibles” (the things grantmakers don’t tell grant writers), I believe it is necessary to make sure to drive those points home. The text is thick, again due to the level of intangibles and insider’s reports from grantmakers, so even if a reader highlights points it is still very useful for the authors to take time to repeat most important points. That way, it is stuck in the reader’s head. There is a method to the madness. Overall, the text is an easy read. If someone is interested in grant writing, whether a fledgling writing or seasoned, I would definitely recommend this text. It is affordable and gets straight to the point. I would also recommend using this text in conjunction with Tori O’Neal-McElrath’s Winning Grants Step by Step workbook for developing grant proposals.

“Powerful and unsettling. . . . As memorable an introduction to the subject as The Diary of Anne Frank.” —USA Today

Berlin, 1942: When Bruno returns home from school one day, he discovers that his belongings are being packed in crates. His father has received a promotion and the family must move to a new house far, far away, where there is no one to play with and nothing to do. A tall fence stretches as far as the eye can see and cuts him off from the strange people in the distance.

But Bruno longs to be an explorer and decides that there must be more to this desolate new place than meets the eye. While exploring his new environment, he meets another boy whose life and circumstances are very different from his own, and their meeting results in a friendship that has devastating consequences.

Heartrending and beautifully written Bruno is 9 years old. His father has a cool job, he's in charge of a lot of stuff. He runs a big place, with a huge wire fence, and a lot of people—men and boys—on the other side. They are skinny, they work hard, they are all very dirty, they are all wearing what looks like striped pajamas. There are soldiers in there, who poke at and laugh at the men and boys. Bruno has overheard his parents talking, and knows that his father's boss, “The Fury”, is the one who arranged for them to move to the new home. Bruno's older sister tells him that the place is called Out With.Bruno is Not Allowed to approach the camp, or the fence. But, since he plans on becoming an explorer when he grows up, he decides to Go Exploring (wearing an old overcoat and boots, such as an explorer might wear). And on the other side of the fence he sees a speck. A dot. At tiny thing that, as he gets closer, reveals itself to be a boy. Just another boy, perhaps a boy for Bruno to play with. This book is startling, horrifying, and yet the story is told in a charming way. Bruno and his friendship with Shmuel through the fence is just the story of two boys, but also a story of a Jewish Concentration Camp, told through the unaware eyes of the son of the man in charge of the camp. Bruno's naivete brings the humanity into the story, and makes it unique. Just a wonderful, scary, suspenseful and at the same time heartrending—story, leading up to a beautifully written climax.Heartbreaking and Beautiful I've now read this book twice. The writing style is amazing by allowing the reader to read through a child's perspective. The innocence of it all truly grips you - the spelling, the pronunciation, the willingness to befriend anyone, and choosing to live one's life based on what is right vs what others want you to do. In think the childlike perspective is what makes this story even more heartbreaking. A simple and beautiful friendship complicated by a war fueled by such a hate. This book is a sad and beautiful reminder of how the hatefulness of some can so easily bleed into the hearts of others, but also how a childlike mentality can help to bridge gaps across cultures, races, etc. I recommend for everyone to read this book!A masterful book! My son and I read this for his ELA class and we both LOVED it!! Although written for students, it has a storyline that touches all who read it both young and old!! It's got a beautiful storyline of friendship and tolerance...and an ending that will leave you speechless!!! An excellent read!!

The Light in the Hallway Download

ISBN: B07RK8XBNK
Title: The Light in the Hallway Pdf

From the bestselling author of The Girl in the Corner comes the moving story of a man whose life is changed in an instant. How do you start again when you lose the only love you’ve ever known?

When Nick’s wife Kerry falls ill and dies, he realises for the first time how fragile his happiness has always been, and how much he’s been taking his good life and wonderful family for granted. Now, he suddenly finds himself navigating parenthood alone, unsure how to deal with his own grief, let alone that of his teenage son, Olly.

In the depths of his heartbreak, Nick must find a way to navigate life that pleases his son, his in-laws, his family and his friends—while honouring what Kerry meant to them all. But when it comes to his own emotions, Nick doesn’t know where to begin. Kerry was his childhood sweetheart—but was she really the only one who could ever make him happy?

And in the aftermath of tragedy, can Nick and his son find themselves again?

The most uplifting book ever !!! This has to be one of the best heartwarming books that I’ve read for a long time. Full of love and sorrow of a normal family as they try to adjust after the death of a parent.Nick & his son Oliver are left devastated after the death of Nicks wife. Trying to pick up the pieces and steer his teenage son into the right path is no easy feat.I thoroughly enjoy this author’s books and look forward to many more. What happens when your whole life changes? Amanda Prowse has the rare talent for taking an ordinary, everyday life circumstance and turning it into an extraordinary heartwarming story. She has done it with every one of her books that I have read and she continues this satisfying tradition with The Light in the Hallway. The story opens with Nick going to the hospital to say a final goodbye to his wife Kerry, who is dying of cancer. They married young when she discovered she was pregnant with their son, Ollie, and she has been Nick’s whole life, certainly at least his whole adult life. Having married my childhood sweetheart I can relate. It’s been a good life for the most part for Kerry and Nick, but in some ways kind of a life he has settled for, a compromise, circumstances dictate. He can’t imagine life without her. There’s no welcoming light in the hallway anymore to let him know Kerry is home and waiting for him. But he’s young, so there has to be life, HIS life, right? Even if others don’t understand. And others never understand. Your children don’t understand what your relationship is or was, the good and bad of it, no one does, they just see you as a unit. But they judge you anyway and you feel guilty. And you already feel guilty so it just compounds it. And that’s where Nick is right now, wondering what the next half of his life is going to be like. More of this overwhelming loneliness and uncertainly about every decision he makes? We follow Nick through his grief, Ollie through his, and the support, interaction and interference from friends and family, some of whom mean well, and some, not so much. Nick takes one tentative step after another, until his steps aren’t quite so tentative. He’s a good man and loved Kerry very much, and now it’s time for the next chapter.Interspersed throughout the story are peeks back into 1992, when Nick was 10 and spending the summer with his best mates Eric and Alex, still his best mates today, building Half Bike. These chapters are charming and tell us a lot about Nick and the man he has become.I thoroughly enjoyed The Light in the Hallway. A friendship of three boys has turned into a solid friendship of three men, but life for all three of them is much different than expected. That’s the thing about life, and the thing Amanda Prowse always portrays so magnificently. Things always change. They don’t turn out like you think they will. Even good surprises are still surprises. There might be a Master Plan for your life floating around somewhere, but the older you get the more you learn that you are not really in charge of that plan. That’s what happened to Nick and the others. Life. Thanks to fantastic author Amanda Prowse for providing me with an advance copy of The Light in the Hallway via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
