Sleep, My Child, Forever Pdf

ISBN: B01LXD6LTR
Title: Sleep, My Child, Forever Pdf The Riveting True Story of a Mother Who Murdered Her Own Children
The dark double life of Ellen Boehm, the mother who murdered her two sons—and nearly killed her daughter.

Ellen Boehm, a single mom from St. Louis, Missouri, appeared devoted to her children. But in reality, she was unequipped for motherhood, financially strapped, and desperate. Within a year of each other, her sons, ages two and four, died mysteriously, and Boehm’s eight-year-old daughter then suffered a near-fatal mishap when a hair dryer fell into the girl’s bath. While neighbors wondered how Boehm remained so calm through it all, Det. Sgt. Joseph Burgoon of St. Louis Homicide had darker suspicions.

Burgoon soon unraveled a labyrinth of deception, greed, and obsession that revealed a cold-blooded killer whose get-rich-quick scheme came at the cost of her children’s lives. Boehm had taken out insurance policies on her children with six different companies totaling nearly $100,000. Using police reports, case documents, and photos, journalist John Coston recreates the events that led to one mother’s unspeakable acts of filicide—and a cop’s relentless pursuit of the truth.

Heartbreaking A chilling story of one woman's need to be Important Adored, Desired and the lengths she was willing to go to achieve her dreams, I couldn't put this down until the end it had me completely riveted from beginning to end.Great book I have read true crime for over 50 years and this made me take breaks at times because it became hard to read. To think this woman could be so evil, selfish and methodical. One of the books that caused me to believe i understood reasons someone should receive the death penalty.Good Well written with an accurate description of the people that were in this true account story.Unreal what a hard working, single mother of three children would do. The detective behind this case worked hard and diligently to nail the guilty person.

Recovery Free Pdf

ISBN: 125018245X
Title: Recovery Pdf Freedom from Our Addictions

Russell Brand is an English comedian, actor, radio host, activist, and author of several bestselling books, including the New York Times bestsellers My Booky Wook and Revolution. He has had a number of major film roles including parts in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him to the Greek. Funded by his profits from Revolution, Russell opened a nonprofit coffee house in London run as a social enterprise by former drug addicts in abstinence-based recovery programs. He lives in London, England.

A guide to all kinds of addiction from a star who has struggled with heroin, alcohol, sex, fame, food and eBay, that will help addicts and their loved ones make the first steps into recovery

“This manual for self-realization comes not from a mountain but from the mud...My qualification is not that I am better than you but I am worse.”Russell Brand

With a rare mix of honesty, humor, and compassion, comedian and movie star Russell Brand mines his own wild story and shares the advice and wisdom he has gained through his fourteen years of recovery. Brand speaks to those suffering along the full spectrum of addiction―from drugs, alcohol, caffeine, and sugar addictions to addictions to work, stress, bad relationships, digital media, and fame. Brand understands that addiction can take many shapes and sizes and how the process of staying clean, sane, and unhooked is a daily activity. He believes that the question is not “Why are you addicted?” but "What pain is your addiction masking? Why are you running―into the wrong job, the wrong life, the wrong person’s arms?"

Russell has been in all the twelve-step fellowships going, he’s started his own men’s group, he’s a therapy regular and a practiced yogi―and while he’s worked on this material as part of his comedy and previous bestsellers, he’s never before shared the tools that really took him out of it, that keep him clean and clear. Here he provides not only a recovery plan, but an attempt to make sense of the ailing world.

If this book can help me. It can help anybody. I hated the idea of getting help the way my parents would have.I hated the idea of going back to a God I left when I couldn’t function.I hated the idea of going to church and having to use church speech. And I hated the idea of giving up what I knew was killing me.Then a book that speaks the same language I do. Uses the same words I do. And outthinks me at ever step came into my view. This is the book that’s helping me go through recovery and to un f*** myself. I knew I needed it I just had no idea how much I wanted it.How much the pain of my past and what I was running from was killing my future by not letting me live in the present. All the reasons I never wanted to look back and just keep stuffing anything and everything into the void to get those moments of joy that turned to sorrow. How broken I wouldn’t let myself feel. And how much I thought fixing it would hurt.I’m still going through the book. I’m sure I will many more times. This isn’t a feel good in an hour then put it away kind of book. This is the manual for self realization. And that’s not something you put away until you have it down by heart. If you’re looking at this book thinking that it will cure you it won’t. But it will help you save you. And that’s all I needed. Now all I want is to live here and now and for the first time in over sixteen long years I’m starting to see the present not as something to escape from. But something to run to.If you wake up daily and try to forget the here and now this book is for you.If the moment the slightest problem in your life makes you run to a fix. It’s for you.If you made it this far. The book is for you.And thankfully the book was for me too.Russell... Congrats on another meaningful project! Russell Brand has become a tremendous force in my life, due to his podcasts, interviews and "Revolution" book... This book follows suit, seeming (so far) to be another honest, insightful, humorous, intelligent peek into what it means to be human... Or, i should say to be pure, unblemished Awareness playing out the human dance in our shared reality.Russell......If by some fluke you read this review, you have truly helped change the trajectory of my path, along with my obsession with the Bhagavad Gita, and Upanishads...and, may i recommend to you the Ashtavakra Gita? (If you have not read).Blessing!Ryan:SearchingHorizons@gmail.com.Helpful to fight bad habits Russell has hard-won advice to share, and I love his raw honesty and humor. I'm not an addict per se but have depression and some bad habits to manage (among them overeating, inactivity, and procrastination). This book helps me find (and maintain) the strength and positive energy to tackle them. You can open the book to practically any page to get a dose of help.

Where the Crawdads Sing Free Pdf

ISBN: B07FSXPMHY
Title: Where the Crawdads Sing Pdf

Number-one New York Times best seller

A Reese's Book Club + Hello Sunshine on Audible Pick

"I can't even express in words how much I love this book...the way it's performed on Audible just took me right back to my long summers in Tennessee. This story has a special place in my heart - I didn't want it to end." (Reese Witherspoon)

"Painfully beautiful." (The New York Times Book Review)

"Perfect for fans of Barbara Kingsolver." (Bustle)

How long can you protect your heart?

For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life - until the unthinkable happens.

Perfect for fans of Barbara Kingsolver and Karen Russell, Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

Disappointing This book had so many fantastic reviews. I was looking forward to reading it but quickly became disillusioned. I'm from NC and have never heard anyone talk with the type of accents Ms. Owens chose for her characters. It seems like a small thing but it was extremely distracting, and eventually became ridiculous, especially because the characters somehow switched back and forth between speaking like Mark Twain's Jim to perfect English. It made me wonder if the author has ever been to our fair state. The story was good enough, albeit predictable, and it's obvious the author did her research on marsh life. I learned quite a few wildlife facts that were interesting. The conversations just kept me wrinkling up my nose with distaste and I ended the book on a sour note. This is the one - this is THE book you cannot put down This is one of the most moving, caring, emotional novels I have ever read. I read this book only because I had met Delia and have read her wildlife books she wrote with husband Mark Owens. After starting the book this was all I could think about for days. Kya's life become part of mine and the characters ceased to live on the page... they were alive with me and I was in the marsh, feeling every feather - the air, creatures and the plants. Jumpin' became a trusted friend and so many moments touched my very soul. I should not have been surprised as Delia has a great style in her wildlife books that I love to read. But a novel like this is not my normal read. Maybe I need to now reconsider what I choose as this book stopped me cold and made me rethink a lot that happened in my life. Delia touched the human soul with her behavioral descriptions. She is not only a respected wildlife scientist, she is a human behaviorist and understands more about the human condition that just about anyone else I know. This is a tremendous treasure of a book and I'm sure it's staying in my read again list for a long time. Highly recommend the book.Take your time and savor every sentence. I am extremely stingy with my compliments for good books, but this tale is well-deserving of the praise. Of the last dozen or so books I've read, only two others earned five complete stars by me: She Read to Us in the Late Afternoons: A Life in Novels by Kathleen Hill, and Circe by Madeline Miller.I have to confess that I have also had magical moments with marsh creatures such as herons, eagles, and mud turtles. Like the main character, Kya, I am a compulsive collector of treasures from those Great Rock Tumblers: the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean which makes this book so attractive to me. However, Delia Owens' writing is more than just about the natural world. She spins a good and very well-written tale about murder, courtroom drama, nature, poetry, and even love.Another reviewer described Owens' writing as lyrical. It is. Take your time and savor every sentence.

A Random Walk Down Wall Street Download

ISBN: 1324002182
Title: A Random Walk Down Wall Street Pdf The Time-Tested Strategy for Successful Investing (12th Edition)
Author: Burton G. Malkiel
Published Date: 2019-02
Page: 432

“Do you want to do well in the stock market? Here’s the best advice. Scrape together a few bucks and buy Burton Malkiel’s book. Then take what’s left and put it in an index fund.” - Los Angeles Times“Imagine getting a week-long lesson on investing from someone with the common sense of Benjamin Franklin, the academic and institutional knowledge of Milton Friedman and the practical experience of Warren Buffett. That’s about what awaits you in the latest edition of this must-read by Burton Malkiel.” - Barron's“Not more than half a dozen really good books about investing have been written in the past fifty years. This one may well belong in the classics category.” - Forbes“If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to improve your personal finances, here’s a suggestion: Instead of picking up one of the scores of new works flooding into bookstores, reread an old one: A Random Walk Down Wall Street.” - New York Times“An engagingly written and wonderfully argued tome.” - Money“A useful introduction to investing with lots of common-sense advice.” - Wall Street Journal Burton G. Malkiel is the Chemical Bank Chairman's Professor of Economics Emeritus at Princeton University. He is a former member of the Council of Economic Advisers, dean of the Yale School of Management, and has served on the boards of several major corporations, including Vanguard and Prudential Financial. He is the chief investment officer of Wealthfront.

With the prevailing wisdom changing on an almost daily basis, Burton G. Malkiel’s reassuring and vastly informative volume remains the best investment guide money can buy.

In a time of increasing inequality, when high-frequency traders and hedge-fund managers seem to tower over the average investor, Burton G. Malkiel’s classic and gimmick-free investment guide is now more necessary than ever. Rather than tricks, what you’ll find here is a time-tested and thoroughly research-based strategy for your portfolio. Whether you’re considering your first 401k contribution or contemplating retirement, this fully-updated edition of A Random Walk Down Wall Street should be the first book on your reading list.

In A Random Walk Down Wall Street you’ll learn the basic terminology of "the Street" and how to navigate it with the help of a user-friendly, long-range investment strategy that really works. Drawing on his own varied experience as an economist, financial adviser, and successful investor, Malkiel shows why an individual who buys over time and holds a low-cost, internationally diversified index of securities is still likely to exceed the performance of portfolios carefully picked by professionals using sophisticated analytical techniques. In this new edition, Malkiel provides a brand-new section on the recent bubble in cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, as well as valuable new material on “tax-loss harvesting”―the crown jewel of tax management. He also presents a critical analysis of two recently popular investment-management techniques: factor investing and risk parity.

On top of all this, the book’s classic lifecycle guide to investing, which tailors strategies to investors of any age, will help you plan confidently for the future. You’ll learn how to analyze the potential returns, not only for basic stocks and bonds but for the full range of investment opportunities―from money market accounts and real estate investment trusts to insurance, home ownership, and tangible assets like gold and collectibles. Individual investors of every level of experience and risk tolerance will find throughout the book the critical facts and step-by-step guidance they need to protect and grow their hard-earned dollars.

Eye-opening book I read this book years ago, in an earlier edition. It was a eye-opener. It taught me how the stock market works and showed me the best strategy for an ordinary investor to accumulate a retirement nest egg. After reading Malkiel, I "fired" my investment advisor and switched my savings mostly to inexpensive index funds. As a result, I started keeping more of my money and worrying less about what the market was doing on any given day. I'm now on the verge of retirement, and thanks to the advice of Malkiel (and other like-minded personal finance writers, such as John Bogle, Charles Ellis, and Daniel Solin), I've accumulated enough savings to take the plunge. I only wish I'd come across this book sooner.Beware of the Paradox So, here is the thing. If you’re looking into this book, it is because you’re probably interested in managing your own money. Also, because this is a very basic book, you are probably on the early stages of your investing education. Which means you still have a lot to learn from the theory and, especially, from the practice. Now, because you still have a lot to learn from the practice, you will probably be making most of the mistakes this book warns against. Hence the paradox. So, you are starting your journey here, attempting to formalize what until now it’s only been an intuitive understanding (if that). After finishing this book, you feel good about it, confident that you can do this. So, you then delve into Value Investing, in an attempt to use some fundamental analysis to pick a group of stocks that make up a portfolio that is stronger than the S&P. You soon realize that this is not that easy, as there are too many variables to take into account and then, even if your fundamental analysis is correct, the market for some reason does not validate your views. You feel tired, but not enough to give up. After all, this is really cool stuff and makes you sound smart at social gatherings. So, you decide to change your approach. You still feel like it is possible to create a basket of stocks that can beat the market. You see names like Amazon, Netflix, Nvidia, and think you can easily get on a sweet ride by investing in those market leaders. You do well. But you think you can do better. Because the market decided to take a break with Netflix, your results are not as great as you thought they would be. In the meantime, you’ve been reading Peter Lynch, learned about those 10 baggers, and started looking around you for those places where you usually shop at. You love going to Shake Shack. So you look up its stock symbol and realize it had a tremendous run since its IPO. At a family meeting, you hear your fresh-out-of-college nephew talk about how much he likes his job as a data scientist at Hello Fresh, where they use an incredible tool called Tableau. So, you decide to invest in all of these companies. Initially, you do well in Shake Shack. But then the market decides it had a very long run and it’s time to take some profits off the table. So, you end up with average results. Tableau does great and you keep hearing good things about it. Then it tumbles 50% overnight on disappointing earnings. Hello Fresh has an amazing business model but for some reason the stock has been trading in ranges for ever. Now, a year has gone by and you realize you got the same results the index had. Except that you spent all that time and money trying to build and maintain your portfolio when you could have easily bought and held the SPY. Even worse, you now have to pay taxes on all those trades that you exited just so you could feel good by pocketing some profits.Well, my friend, those are the type of lessons this book tries to teach. The problem is that you will not listen at first and will eventually learn the hard way, just to end up here again (probably re-reading this review). But that’s good. You learned your lesson and are wiser now. Good luck!My mind is blown I read quite a few books 10 to 15 on investing in about a month time frame 300 plus pages each. Years of reading articles online and in magazines. And a few bad experiences in The stock market and a few good ones. I even read the intelligent investor, and security analysis among other great books. I recently decided I needed to take investing more seriously and decided to finally read this book. I bought the Kindle edition since I'm overseas, but after reading this I'm buying a hard copy as well. This blows every other book I've read on the topic of investing away. I was allready a strong believer in indexing as it was after this my mind expanded and there is so much to gain from this book. If you care about yourself, and your families future buy this book. Words do it no justice. With that said the material can at times be a little dry. The first few chapters are a bit interesting at times but boring as can get most of the time. Great knowledge but boring knowledge. The rest of the book is great especially the views of the author on bonds and the various investment strategies that people have e used in the past. My only critiques are on the part about futures or derivatives, as well as Treasury bills. I've had bad experiences dealing with the Treasury and I don't trust them so this portion although small annoyed me I just had no interest in reading it. The futures/ derivatives last portion of the book just didn't appeal to me. I had no interest in these types of investments and after reading about them in more detail have even less Interest In them. The portfolio diversification suggestions could have been more detailed. Otherwise great book, I will be reading a few other books just to get different views or strategies.

Good for Beginners and those wanting to learn more about hand lettering/modern calligraphy Basically I have the artistic ability of a remote control LOL I have always wanted to learn how to write in a pretty way. I’ve tried official classic calligraphy and that was a nightmare. But then I started seeing a lot of stuff on Instagram and online about hand lettering and a new way of doing calligraphy. So my interest was definitely piqued. After quite a bit of research I found this book online and immediately bought it. I think this book is good for somebody like myself. A beginner with or without artistic talent. I bought myself a “Tombow beginNer “ Kit with pen, pencil, eraser, etc. I also got myself a notebook that I could practice in. I must say I became particularly motivated after realizing I could do this. While I’m not going to post any images because nobody needs to laugh that hard. LOL I believe with some practice I can be kind of good. I could make pretty envelopes, make signs, etc. etc. goodness knows I will never have a career or 1 million followers on Instagram for my lettering skills, but it’s nice to learn something new and put the creative side of my brain to work. If you want to learn about lettering and hand calligraphy, amp up the way you write/draw your letters, further your skills, etc. this book is quite useful. If you are more advanced you might not get as much out of it. It may be a tad bit of a disappointment if you are definitely advanced/more creative than somebody like me LOL But it would definitely make a good gift for somebody who has shown interest in lettering/calligraphy. I was going to buy the e-book version but for something like this I really like having the book right there in front of me. Plus there is practice space in the book. After I’ve used up that space I go onto my grid styled black-and-white hard covered notebook. I like keeping everything in one notebook so as to watch my progression or regression if I wait too long in between practice sessions. So practice practice practice that’s the only way to make it to Carnegie Hall and that’s the only way to become a lettering guru! This company also puts out other books that are quite awesomeI’ve NEVER done hand lettering or bullet journaling— 100% beginner and I love this book! I just got this book today and I’ve been having so much fun!! I think this book is an amazing deal for just $7! I haven’t gotten my brush pens yet so I’ve just been doing simple hand lettering with a mechanical pencil. Still super fun! Hat I recommend, and I didn’t do sadly, is to take pictures of the pages before you start writing in them or scan them so you can print them out and use them again if you want. Personally I forgot to do this but I don’t think it’s 100% necessary anyway because you can always get an extra notebook and trace! Anyway, am loving this book so far!Great for beginners Great book for a beginner to lettering. I like how it covers more than just one style, and give tips to put your own twist on things. The last chapter includes ways to combine the different styles and flourishes into projects and artwork. The only negative I have is I wish the binding was more like a spiral notebook so that it says flat.It would also be nice if there were more blank practice pages included.

Title: We Want to Negotiate Pdf The Secret World of Kidnapping, Hostages and Ransom (Columbia Global Reports)

Starting in late 2012, Westerners working in Syria - journalists and aid workers - began disappearing without a trace. A year later, the world learned they had been taken hostage by the Islamic State. Throughout 2014, all the Europeans came home, first the Spanish, then the French, then an Italian, a German, and a Dane. In August 2014, the Islamic State began executing the Americans - including journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff, followed by the British hostages.

Joel Simon, who in nearly two decades at the Committee to Protect Journalists has worked on dozens of hostages cases, delves into the heated hostage policy debate. The Europeans paid millions of dollars to a terrorist group to free their hostages. The US and the UK refused to do so, arguing that any ransom would be used to fuel terrorism and would make the crime more attractive, increasing the risk to their citizens. We Want to Negotiate is an exploration of the ethical, legal, and strategic considerations of a bedeviling question: Should governments pay ransom to terrorists?

So important this book! Why we in the US refuse to look at data, then make uninformed, life-threatening decisions while in Europe (ok, continental Europe) on this matter at least, they look at data, then try to save people's lives, I do not know. Our government endangers its citizens by embarking on crazy, obscene wars in the Middle East. When anger over these wars bites American citizens in the ass, the USG replies, "who? me? I did something wrong? No, I didn't." In short, this book makes a wise and important argument: we must look after our people. It also debunks the silliness about ransoms inspiring more kidnappers. Wars inspire kidnappers. Ransoms can conceivably save lives. Some day, when the dark star that has lately risen over the US subsides--by which I mean, whenever we get around to getting rid of the Donald--we will come back to this book. Why? Because kidnapping, like prostitution, has a storied, ancient past. It produces cash. It's kinda fun, sometimes, for some of the people involved. It's gonna be with us forever. So how should we respond? This book is a wise, essential guide. We Want to Negotiate We Want to Negotiate by Joel Simon is a free NetGalley ebook that I read in late December.Near or around the time that I chose to review this book, the journalist Jamal Khashoggi had been kidnapped and killed in Iraq, reportedly for writing liberal-minded articles with the New York Times and filing for divorce from his wife. Now, about 3-4 months after this occurrence, I decided to actually read this book and perhaps learn about what he may have knowingly gotten involved with or even been working alongside without foreseeing its hazards.Simon interviews journalists who have survived being kidnapped (many of which now work as advocates for victims of crime and refugees), as well as their close family and coworkers (particularly that of Jim Foley), plus experts within law enforcement fields. It brings to light the torturous and arduousness of negotiations, the dangers of choosing to raid and extract, and the regulations of international law, like the Patriot Act. Terrorist groups, pirates, and guerrilla revolutionaries as targeting journalists, members of a ruling class family, and international civilian subcontractors and aid workers, and use kidnapping as a way of spreading propaganda while using less resources to create a broader visible impact and to request monetary ransom and/or the release of imprisoned compatriots. All told, it's somewhat of a political intrigue thriller to read, but bogged down by a little too much jargon.Interesting background. I thought this was a very interesting read. I have seen the high profile kidnappings on tv but there are many more than we realize. Joel goes into the stories behind some of the interesting kidnappings and what countries pay the ransom and what do not. How families have gotten involved and how kidnapped victims returned have gotten involved post-return. Well worth the read.
